[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *sōlak (“left-handed”),[1] which is, according to Clauson, the origin of Proto-Mongolic *solagaï (“left, handed”). Compare Azerbaijani solaxay, Bashkir һулаҡай (hulaqay), Crimean Tatar solaqay, Kazakh солақай (solaqai) and Tuvan солагай (solagay), all deriving from the Proto-Mongolic source.
