Borrowed from Prakrit 𑀅𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀺 (aggi), from Sanskrit अग्नि (agni), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hagniš, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁n̥gʷnis. Doublet of అగ్ని (agni). Cognate with Tamil அக்கி (akki).
