From Sanskrit क्षत्र (kṣatra, the kṣatriya social class; member of this class), possibly via Old Khmer °ក្សត្រ (°ksatra), ក្ឞត្រ (kṣatra, reigning monarch; king; prince). Cognate with Modern Khmer ក្សត្រ (ksat).
