Miyako

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Ryukyuan *urajamasi, possibly borrowed from Early Middle Japanese Japanese 羨ましい (urayamashii), as *urayamasïkaz would be expected, since *ora (hidden side, back side) goes to Miyako うら (ura), attested throughout the dialects.
