- (Vijfheerenlanden) First attested as cortachoven in the middle of the 14th century. Compound of Middle Dutch achte (“eight”) and the plural form of hoeve (“piece of land of a certain size”).
- (Zuid-Holland) Compound of acht (“eight”) and the plural form of hoeve (“piece of land of a certain size”) or hof (“homestead, farmstead”).
