This is a list of the most common first names in the U.S.A. in 1880-2009 and the decades when they were most popular, with a frequency of at least 0.4 per cent ( 1 per 250 ) in their gender group. Each spelling is treated as a separate name. The source does not record accent marks ( as in José) or upper case letters ( as in JoAnne). The data deals only with the first names entered on birth certificates; middle names are not included.
