Illegal?

[edit]

Are they really "illegal"? Are they really just from South East Asia? And is this an Aussie-only term? I'd like to see some sources. Tooironic 11:47, 9 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've taken out the Australian tag as there is evidence of use elsewhere. Might add Australian / US later when I've had a better look. I was going to add a "dated" tag but surprisingly it still shows up in modern news. This also implies that the illegal mention might still be correct, as their refugee status is still under review. The term seems only to apply to SE Asia, but I've only had a brief look so far. --Dmol 08:13, 25 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
There's plenty of use elsewhere and 'illegal' applies to only some of them. — LlywelynII 05:19, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wrong entry

[edit]

This is one of the rare cases where the plural is actually the real term and the singular is a post-hoc construction. The main entry should (and soon will) be at boat people. — LlywelynII 05:19, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
