Noun:

  1. unintentionally embarrassing oneself
  2. undermining one's own position in an argument, sport, or game

Aside from the confusion about POS, this seems to only exist on Urban Dictionary and a couple of similar sites, though there are enough references in Google Books to owning one's self, and self-owned businesses that I can't be completely sure. This seems to be using the sense of own that gave rise to pwn, but still doesn't quite make sense. It will definitely need to be cleaned up if verified. Tons of results on Twitter. Binarystep (talk) 01:34, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
It can be found in (relatively recent) Usenet posts, e.g. [1], [2], [3], and also on blogs and the like. Even in magazines: [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], [12]. 98.170.164.88 01:36, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I stand corrected. Rfv withdrawn. Would someone be so kind as to reword this so it makes sense and doesn't read like the definition of a verb? Chuck Entz (talk) 01:58, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Anecdotally can confirm that this is a real thing... Equinox 03:31, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've tidied it up (no citations). "Owning" has been gamer slang for a very long time, way more than a decade. Equinox 03:33, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
