It is important to consider typographic ligatures throughout VViktionary, as it is part of our history on the Languages of Latin, Old English, etc. that used and STILL use typographic ligatures. "Æ/æ", "Œ/œ", and the ampersand, "&" are very common ligatures, all derived from Latin (used in Old English). They are from the forms of "ae", "oe", and "et" (Latin for "and"). "Et" can be seen easily as a ligature vvith the Trebuchet MS font, shovvn here: "&".
