Borrowed from New Latin asymptōta (līnea) (literally line not meeting), from Ancient Greek ἀσύμπτωτος (asúmptōtos, not falling together), from ἀ- (a-, not) + σύν (sún, together) + πτωτός (ptōtós, apt to fall, fallen), from πίπτω (píptō, to fall).
