Etymology

[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish بوڭامق (buŋamak, to go senile, to become sick). Compare Old Turkic 𐰉𐰆𐰭𐰀 (buŋa-, to become sick, go through difficulty), which is from Old Turkic 𐰉𐰆𐰭 (buŋ, distress, grief, melancholy).[1] Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *buŋ (suffering). See bun, a cognate term and bön.
