Etymology 1

Either an onomatopoeia[1] or from Proto-Albanian *dudā, from Proto-Indo-European *dheu (to reel, dissipate, blow). Compare Old Frisian dud (anesthetization), Old Norse doðna (become insensitive), Old English dydrian (deceive), dydring (yolk).
