Yoruba

Etymology

[edit]

From gbà +‎ gbé, with some etymological evidence that it may be a splitting verb, perhaps from gbà (to be taken, to receive) +‎ gbé (to be lost; to be gone), literally That which is received and then lost. Compare with Ayere gbé, Igala gbényọ́ọ̀
