Derived terms[edit]
Etymology 2[edit]
Sino-Vietnamese word from 好.
This is the SV reading of the verbal form 好 (MC xawH, “to like, to be fond of”). This form probably originated from Central-Southern Vietnam and displaced Northern háo, which would be the expected reflex of 好 (MC xawH), as the "standard" Sino-Vietnamese reading. Compare cáo vs. kiếu, bảo vs. biểu, đào vs. điều.
Verb[edit]
hiếu
- (used in compounds only) to like
