Inherited from Proto-Tupi-Guarani *kʷarat͡sɨ, from Proto-Tupian *ŋgəat. Doublet of kûara.[1] By surface analysis, (this) +‎ 'ara (day) +‎ sy (origin), literally "the origin of this day".

Cognate with Paraguayan Guaraní kuarahy.
