re- +‎ label

Verb

[edit]

relabel (third-person singular simple present relabels, present participle relabelling or relabeling, simple past and past participle relabelled or relabeled)

  1. To label again; to apply a new label to.
  2. To label differently; to label with something else.

Usage notes

[edit]
  • In a strict sense, relabel merely refers to applying a new label, whether or not that label differs from the old one (for example, when replacing a damaged price sticker). However, it is commonly used to imply that the new label will differ in some fashion.
