sell on (third-person singular simple present sells on, present participle selling on, simple past and past participle sold on)

  1. (transitive) to resell.

Rather than sell the company's products on commission they, like distributors, buy stock from head office and sell it on for profit.
  2. (transitive) To convince.
I was opposed to his ideas, but he sold me on them.
I have indeed been sold on higher inductive types!
    • 2014 May 30, Will Butler, “The Mark of Cane”, in The New York Times Magazine[1]:
It made an impression, but it wasn’t enough to sell me on it. The cane stayed in storage. To me, it signified defeat, so I kept it out of sight at college, social events, job interviews — everywhere.
