French

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Middle French sourcil, from Old French sourcil, sorcil, inherited from Latin supercilium. "sour-" is an older form of sur (over, above) while "cil" means "eyelash" in French. Thus, "sourcil" literally means "above eyelash."
