From Hausa takàr̃dā, from a Berber language. From Arabic قِرْطَاس (qirṭās), from Aramaic קַרְטֵיסָא / ܩܪܛܝܣܐ (qarṭīsā), from Ancient Greek χάρτης (khártēs). Compare with Yoruba tákàda and Zarma takàrda.
