French

Etymology

The past participle comes from Old French eslit, from Latin electus, probably through a Vulgar Latin form *exlectus. Compare the parallel Old French form esleü (Modern French élu).

élit

  1. third-person singular present indicative of élire
  2. (obsolete) past participle of élire (displaced by élu; survives in élite)
