Etymology

The older connection with χαράσσω (kharássō, to sharpen, to whet) must be given up. Related to χέραδος (khérados, debris, gravel) and thus probably from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 159: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value pregrc is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF., in view of the variation.
