From Proto-Slavic *vitędzь, borrowed from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 239: Parameter 1 should be a valid language code; the value "gem" is not valid. See WT:LOL. *wīkingaz (compare Old Norse víkingr). Cognate with Slovene vitez, dialectal Bulgarian витез (vitez), Russian витязь (vitjazʹ, “hero”), Slovak víťaz (“winner”).
