Old Armenian

Etymology

A (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Classical Syriac name, attested in Armenian sources as Նունա (Nuna) (a bishop of Göksun), Նոյնաս (Noynas) (a bishop of Seleucia), Նունոս (Nunos) (a bishop of Antioch). Cognate with the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Hebrew name נון (Nūn, Nōn), (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Akkadian name 𒄩 (/Nūnā/). All from the Semitic word for "fish": Classical Syriac ܢܘܢܐ (nūnā, fish), Akkadian 𒄩 (KU6 /nūnu/, fish).

The feminine form of the Syriac name is the origin of Նունէ (Nunē).
