A Zan borrowing. Compare Mingrelian ჭანჯი (č̣anǯi), ჭანდი (č̣andi), Laz მ-ჭაჯი (m-ç̌aci, fly), Old Georgian მ-წერი (m-c̣eri, fly; insect). Klimov reconstructs Proto-Kartvelian *mc̣₁er- for these.
