הוֹסִיף (hosíf) third-singular masculine past (hif'il construction, passive counterpart הוּסַף)

  1. To add (something) to (something else).
    למה לא הוסיפו מלפפון?
    láma ló hosífu m'laf'fón?
    Why didn't they add cucumber?
  2. (literary) To continue (to do something).
    • 1938, Nathan Alterman, Still the Tune Returns 7–8
      וכבשה ואיילת תהיינה עדות \ שליטפת אותן והוספת ללכת
      vekivsá veayelét tihiyená 'edót / shelitaf'tá otán vehosaftá lalékhet
      And a sheep and a doe will be witness / that you stroked them and continued to walk
  3. (archaic) Coordinated with another verb to indicate that the action of that verb "adds" in some way.
