  1. Samekh: the fifteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
  2. Used as the numeral 60 in Hebrew numbering.
  3. Used to mark the end of a setumah.

Usage notes

  • In Modern Hebrew, the letter ס (s) is nearly always pronounced /s/; however, there are a few words and names with a /z/ sound that are nonetheless sometimes written with a ס instead of a ז (z); examples include מוזיקה \ מוסיקה (múzika, music) and פריז \ פריס (paríz, Paris).
