שרד / שָׂרַד (sarád) (pa'al construction)

  1. (of people) to survive (live past a life-threatening event)
    • הכלב היה היחיד ששרד ברעידת האדמה.
      hakélev hayá hayakhíd shesarád beridát ha'adamá.
      The dog was the only one who survived the earthquake.
  2. (of things) to survive (remain intact after a disaster)
    • ספר התורה שרד בשרפה בבית הכנסת בדרך נס.
      séfer hatórah sarád besrefá bebéyt haknéset bedérekh nés.
      The Torah scroll miraculously survived the fire at the synagogue.
