Etymology

Borrowed from Aramaic אָוָוזָא (/ʾawazzā/), from Akkadian 𒊻𒄷 (/ūsu/, duck), from Sumerian 𒊻𒄷 (/uz/, wild duck, waterfowl), likely all onomatopoeic in origin; cognates with Hebrew אֲוָז (ʾăwāz) and Classical Syriac ܘܰܙܳܐ (wazzā).
