  1. second-person masculine singular active imperative of اِنْتَوَى (intawā)

Egyptian Arabic

Pronoun

انتو (íntupl

  1. Alternative form of انتوا (íntu)

Etymology

From Classical Arabic أَنْتُم (ʔantum) with (optional) omission of the initial glottal stop and the final /m/. The vowel letter at the end is not found in the original Classical Arabic pronoun but is added to match the /intəw/ pronunciation or to distinguish it from similarly-written pronouns ending in short vowels. Compare انتي (inti) from أَنْتِ (ʔanti).

Pronunciation

IPA(key): /ɪntəw/, /ɪntʊ/

Pronoun

اِنْتَوْ or اِنْتُو (intaw or intu)

  1. y'all; you all; you guys; youse; you (plural subject pronoun)
Synonym: (dialectal: Eastern Province) انتون (intūn)
