Etymology

Derived from Aramaic סלופּי (salūpā, tortoise, land-turtle), from Akkadian 𒃻𒅮𒈾 (šeleppû, turtle, snake; a shell, egg, canister). Also found as Hebrew שַׁלְחוּפָה (šalḥūp̄ā, tortoise).
