From Classical Arabic صَيْدُون (Ṣaydūn), from Classical Syriac ܨܰܝܕ݁ܳܢ (Ṣaydon) from Phoenician 𐤑𐤉𐤃𐤅𐤍 (Ṣīdūn). Cognate with Aramaic ܨܝܕܘܢ (Ṣīdōn), Hebrew צִידוֹן (Ṣīḏōn), Ancient Greek Σιδών (Sidṓn), Latin Sīdōn.
