Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tuHṣṇíHm, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tuHšníHm. Cognate with Avestan 𐬙𐬎𐬱𐬥𐬌̣𐬱𐬀𐬛- (tušnịšad-). Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *tuh₂s-n-, with cognates such as Danish tyst (quiet)[1], Old Prussian tusnan (still) and Luwian 𒌅𒄷𒅆𒀀𒄿 (tuḫušiya-, to await, to wait and see)[2].
