Tibetan

Etymology

From རྒྱ (rgya, extent, size; vastness; empire) + གར (gar) (variant of དཀར (dkar, white)), literally “white expanse, white empire”. So named perhaps because its ancient inhabitants wore white clothing. Not related to གར (gar, dancing).
