In Old Tibetan it was /lt͡ɕi-ba/, from /ltʲi-ba/ (by palatalisation), from /ɦl̥tʲi-ba/ (by Coblin's law), from /ɦtl̥ʲi-ba/, [ɦt͡ɬʲi-ba] (by metathesis), from /ɦl̥ʲi-ba/ (by Conrady's law, epenthesis), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *kləj.
