Etymology

According to Klimov[1] and Fahnrich[2], from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Kartvelian *txil- (hazelnut). Cognate with Mingrelian თხირ (txir), Laz მთხირ (mtxir) and Svan შდიხ (šdix). Also, Armenian տխիլ (txil) may be a Kartvelian loan.
