Etymology

From the name of Saint Nino, called Նունէ (Nunē) in Old Armenian sources, probably of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Classical Syriac origin. Others relate it to the name of the Assyrian goddess of fertility — Nina (also called Ishtar), whence also Old Armenian Նանէ (Nanē, Nane).
