From Ancient Greek Χριστός (Khristós, Christ), through Old Georgian ქრისტე (krisṭe) as Georgians proselytized Christianity to Nakh peoples until the Mongol invasions of the region. Compare its descendants Digor Ossetian Киристе (Kiriste), Mingrelian ქირსე (kirse), Abkhaz Қьырса (Kʲərsa).
