Etymology

[edit]

The forms յակինթ (yakintʻ) and յակինթոս (yakintʻos) are directly from Ancient Greek ὑάκινθος (huákinthos). According to Ačaṙyan, the rest have been influenced by Classical Syriac ܝܩܘܢܕܐ (yāqūndāʾ, yaqqūndāʾ), but compare Parthian 𐫏𐫀𐫐𐫇𐫗𐫅 (yʾkwnd /yākund/) unknown to Ačaṙyan.

See also եաղութ (eaġutʻ).
