Proto-Celtic
Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *kret- (“to shake”). Matasović attempts to rationalize the semantics as "shake" > "hit" > "approach".[1] German stoßen may be compared for semantics.
Verb
*kreteti[2]
- to approach
