[edit]From *ma / *mě (mā / mē) (“negation”) + *klenъ.
- Compare same prefix in Slovene macésən (“larch”).
- Compare parallel forms with other prefixes *ne, *pa-: Russian неклён (nekljón) and паклён (pakljón), Czech neklen, Polish nieklon, Bulgarian неклен (neklen), etc.
