Etymology

First recorded as a given name of Latvians in 1795. From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 360: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "gem" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. compound names beginning with *amal, "vigor, bravery". Cognate with German Amalia and English Amelia.
