Etymology

Proposed 2001. (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)

Proper noun

Australosphenida

  1. A taxonomic clade within the class Mammalia – the monotremes and certain extinct species.

Usage notes

This clade was left unranked by the proposers, who do not apply Linnaean hierarchy. It was arguably defined only in order to contain Monotremata and Ausktribosphenida.
