English: Aristotle (Historia animalium 499a) distinguishes between the Bactrian camels (αἱ Βάκτριαι κάμηλοι) which have two humps and the Arabian camels (αἱ Ἀράβιαι κάμηλοι) which have only one. The latter are also called δρομάδες κάμηλοι ("dromedaries") by other authors, from the verb δραμεῖν - "to run".
