Summary

Description
English: St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad

Built 1918 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works

Ordered for the Trans-Siberian Railway, the outbreak of the Russian Revolution caused the U.S. Railroad Administration (USRA) to ban shipments to Russia. Many of these engines were made available to U.S. railroads. To convert the 5'2" Russian gauge to 4'8-1/2" U.S. track, the driving wheels were fitted with extra-wide tires. After years of service, #1630 was purchased by the Eagle-Pitcher Corp, who later donated it to IRM. This locomotive represents over 20,000 volunteer hours for it's restoration to 1946 appearance. This is the only operating "Russian Decapod" remaining of over 1500 originally built.
