Summary
| Description |
English: Created to demonstrate heraldic gusset. Blazon: In modern English heraldry, the gusset is the pall-like piece in the middle, and this is blazoned: Argent a gusset Gules. Likewise, in modern French it is d'argent au gousset de gueules. However, in the 15- and 1600s, the gusset was considered to be the gore-like piece on the side, and Gerard Legh (The Accidens of Armory, 1576) and John Guillim (A Display of Heraldrie, 1611) blazoned an image like this one gules, two gussets argent, and in French, Hierome de Bara (Le Blason des armoiries, 1581) blazoned an uncolored image of this shape d'or à deux goussets d'azur (as if, again, the gussets were the two gore-like pieces on the sides). In German heraldry (e.g. Johann Siebmacher), the central shape is a Deichselstück / Gabelstück, an alteration of a Y-shaped Deichsel. |
