Berberis aquifolium—holly-leaved Oregon-grape. The flower of this species is the state flower of Oregon. A preparation from these berries was used to treat syphilis in the days before penicillin. Some references say that the berries can be turned into a good jelly. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
