There are signs that the time is slowlyapproaching when ones senses will cease to be so distracted withthe reiterated statement that the nations greatest asset is thehealth of the people ringing in ones ears while filthy fly breedingspots meet ones gaze and foul odours greet ones sense of smell.The conscientious health officer is becoming more powerful thanthe vote-seeking representative of the people. Educational work is the most potent factor in dealing withthis question. This should begin in the schools. It is unnecessaryto change the curriculum but it is necessary that the teachersshould know the facts and know them correctly. The lessons canbe given as nature study or hygiene or both, and experience hasshown that children not only quickly appreciate the significanceof the fly but are singularly active in making practical use oftheir knowledge.
