From earlier Freães,[1][2] from local Late Latin villa Froilanis, a genitive form of Froila,[3] from a Suevic and Gothic personal name, from *Frawilô,[4] from Proto-Germanic *frawjô (lord) and the diminutive personal suffix *-ilan-.[5]
