Central Franconian

Alternative forms

  • Proum (Moselle Franconian)
  • Promm (scattered variant)

Etymology

Prumme on Quetsche

From Old High German *prūma, a northern variant of pfrūma. Compare Dutch pruim, German Pflaume. The sense “vulva” derives from a certain outward resemblance, as might be understood by comparing the yellow plum in the picture at the side.
