From Proto-Finno-Permic *śᴕkćᴈ, cognate with Erzya сувозей (suvoźej), Moksha сувози (suvoźi), Eastern Mari сузо (suzo), Western Mari сузы (suzy), and Komi-Zyrian чукчи (ćukći).
